TKT CLIL Unit 7: Understanding Language Demands and Text Types

TKT CLIL Unit 7: Understanding Language Demands and Text Types

Unit 7 of the TKT CLIL module focuses on the language demands of subject content. In CLIL classrooms, learners meet a wide range of genres, each with a specific purpose and predictable language features.

Teachers must analyse texts at text, sentence, and word levels to support learners effectively. Genres such as discussions, explanations, procedures, and reports appear across subjects, each requiring different grammatical structures and vocabulary.

A genre-based teaching approach helps learners understand how texts are organised and how language works within them. By contextualising, modelling, jointly constructing, and independently writing texts, learners become more confident and accurate in using subject-specific language.

Mastering these concepts is essential for success in the TKT CLIL exam and for effective CLIL teaching practice.
